Love's Legacy: Viscount Chateaubriand and the Irish Girl Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Carleen Markivich -- Intriguing rabbit hole of personal history : I very much liked this book! I was hesitant and unsure how the author would be able to keep me engaged since it isn’t quite a memoir and not quite just historical. The author definitely was able to maintain my attention and perfectly relayed his information with personal interpretations and self deductions. Knowing that Daniel Fallon had some letters that were sent to his distant relative dated back in the early 1800’s, he chose to go down the rabbit hole and conduct his own historical research. I most definitely found this book and content quite fascinating! When you read this book look for the scandals that the author is discussing and attempt to think about how they were judged in the 1800’s and compare it to current day. The author breaks the language down so that it is easy to understand and he presents all information chronologically. If you are interested in history, love, scandal, and personal sleuth memoirs, then this is the book for you! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Florence Chavez -- My Reading Sweet Spot : Books like "Love's Legacy: Viscount Chateaubriand and the Irish Girl" by Daniel Fallon are my reading jam. Historical, romance, a bit of mystery and biography. I loved this book and Fallon's skill of being able to weave it all together with a present-day timeline. The writing was really fluid and not like something was cut and pasted together. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from ELT -- Letters leading to a mystery : Love’s Legacy: Viscount Chateaubriand and the Irish Girl, by Daniel Fallon is an interesting combination of historical and memoir intermixed with a mysterious storyline. After inheriting two letters written in 1817 from Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand, this narrative began with a detective style search of family romance. This book chronicles the author's exploration for connections between this French writer and Fallon's great-great-grandfather, who received the two letters. The ancestral pursuit and historical perspective includes suspense throughout this informative piece about love and tragedy. It's a captivating story to read. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Alexa B -- If you love French history, genealogy, and beautifully written books, this is for you! : I love everything about this book! First of all, it's absolutely beautifully designed. The cover is gorgeous, and it's stunning in hardcover format. But the content of the book doesn't disappoint either. This is such an interesting story of a quest to find out more information about a family connection to one of France's most renowned writer's. Daniel Fallon weaves the tale of his incredible research, and how exciting that he was able to unearth new information about Chateaubriand that even the experts were not aware of! I thoroughly enjoyed this journey of research and following the search to find how an encounter with a young English girl and a dying French man led to so many interesting twists and turns! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lillie S. -- Fascinating Read! : Wow! What a book! I am impressed with the fact that what spurred the author's writing this was his inheriting two notes written to his great-great-grandfather from a famous French writer in 1817. I know I would treasure such an artifact, but would I do the research and writing that Daniel Fallon did? It makes me want to read through the hundreds of letters my father wrote to me during his several deployments overseas with the US Army during the early 2000s. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Patty Beyer -- Historical Memoir : I went in hesitant as a lot of times historical stories do not always keep my interest. That was not the case with this book, I was hooked from the beginning and could not put my kindle down. It all starts with letters sent to one of his ancestors from François-René deChateaubriand, a very well know writer. This causes him to start digging into his family history. Very well written and easy to follow along with even with going back and forth between the past and present. A must read for fans of history or memoirs.
